I left large health system clinical practice just as Epic was coming online. The researchers I knew in psychiatry were drooling at the possibility of the studies they could do. Turns out Epic has been more about capturing documentation to maximize clinical revenue. And the interoperability of data? Still a pipe dream amongst competing health systems, insurance companies, and big tech. I'm also paranoid enough to wonder how our health data can be used against us, especially with health care that continues to be driven by profit.
